I recently started a humble, little herb garden. Already I'm learning that plants need attention, consistency and quality conditions to grow.
Kind of like our diets. And by diet I don't mean Whole30, Paleo, Keto, etc. I just mean how and what you eat on a daily basis.
Like my little herbs, our diets need attention, consistency and quality. Over time this will translate into a healthy lifestyle, which will produce health benefits, which leads to wellness and longevity.
I like saying "I want to eat as close to the ground as possible". What I mean is: I want to eat high-quality foods from natural sources.
Unfortunately, we can't all just go out to the garden and pick fresh veggies or get free range eggs from the farm.
So what are some practical ways to do this?
1. Use the ole "shop the perimeter" method at the grocery store.
We've all heard it before and I kind of feel lame repeating it, but it holds some truth. Focus on buying fresh produce, fresh cuts of meats, complex carbs and high-quality fats whenever possible.
2. Cook more.
You are way more likely to eat quality, nutrient dense food at home than you are if you eat out several times a week.
If you eat out a lot, try cutting back. Use the money you'd spend at a restaurant to buy groceries.
Don't have time to cook during the week?
Try meal prepping on Sunday afternoon.
3. Make up your mind.
Go ahead and make your nutrition a priority. What you eat plays a massive role in your overall health.
Why wouldn't you invest in your health now, on the front end, instead of waiting until you're sick?
Want to know a secret?
Well... it's not really a secret.
You may begin seeing some changes by simply changing the type and quality of food you eat.
Including, but not limited to:
-More satisfaction
-Less overeating
-Lowered desire and craving for junk/sweets
-Weight loss
-Decreased inflammation
All by simply changing what you eat. A small, but weighty modification.
You owe it to yourself. You owe it to your health.
Invest now. Eat well.
I promise you. You won't regret it.
Happy eating!
